Mandriva 2010 RC1 : Linux2u

Final Release Date: 3rd November,2009 ahead of openSuse 11.2.

 Mandriva is quite popular distro and now I am going depict my second encounter  with Mandriva 2010 RC1.

 My Test Machine:

AMD64 3000+ Processor
MSI Motherboard
512 DDR II Ram
ESPON C 58 Printer
Samsung Monitor.

Installation:

It is smooth and fast and graphics looks gorgeous during installation.
You will be able also to use from installation media some very useful tools:

Multimedia Experience:

If you install VLC & SMPlayer (provider in DVD) you can play most of things. But if you want to play using Dragon or Totem you have to buy codecs from fluendo is the only option.


Whats New in Mandriva 2010 RC1:

Due to the strength of Linux, a typical Mandriva Linux system can run for months without a reboot. Additionally, the i586 version of Mandrivalinux Linux is optimized for Pentium class (and compatible processors) to provide the highest performance on this hardware.This release comes with new integration of Nepomuk in KDE. This experimental functionality helps you to add notes, annotations and labels to files.

Conclusion:
I think Mandriva is going to windows way by selling most of things whether it is codecs or its powerpack.Desktop experience is excellent. This edition comes with all latest Software and mind blowing KDE 4.3. So, Lets enjoy Mandriva.

  1. By adding PLF repositories, you will be able to install additionnal codecs without paying the ones from fluendo.
