Puppy Linux 4.2

Puppy Linux 4.2 Was Released on March 27th,2009. As we know Puppy Linux is a tiny Linux available in market comes around 100 MB in size. But it has tendency to bean any other distro in terms of speed. Exceptionally fast, looks great with tons of widget. So lets find out my first experience with Puppy Linux 4.2.

My Test Machine:

AMD64 3000+ Processor
MSI Motherboard
512 DDR II Ram
ESPON C 58 Printer
Samsung Monitor.

Installation:

I took a iso image from internet it was about 103 MB in size and burned using K3B of PCLunuxOS 2009.1. It was a live CD so I went for a Test Drive. Its asked some question like monitor resolution , color then it desktop appears I was stunt that in such a small size how it provides such tones of feature like it has everything from word processor to intant massenger. Booting from Live CD was fast from any other distro's Harddisk boot so imagine how fast it is. Actually it runs fully on RAM that is the secret.
I cannot installed to harddisk I tried 3 times but it cannot create bootloader. This was only cons to use Puppy I hope Puppy will solve the problem as soon as possible.

Multimedia Experiance:
Excellent it was really excellent when it came multimedia experience , everything played out of box from MP3 files to VOB. It has GXine for movie playing and Pmusic for Music needs. sometimes GXine player crashes.

Screenshot :

Conclusion:
It is best for low end computers and perfect for netbooks and sure it is best than windows 98. It could be a window killer if it do some work withs its boot loader.

Fedora 11 -Linux 2u

Fedora is quite popular distro and now I am going to depict my experience with Fedora 11 Leonidas.
Fedora 12 Final Release Date:  11th November,2009  after Mandriva 2010 final release.

My Test Machine:

AMD64 3000+ Processor
MSI Motherboard
512 DDR II Ram
ESPON C 58 Printer
Samsung Monitor.

First Impression:

I took KDE 4 as my desktop. Installation was smooth and fast. I took the default EXT4 as my root partition and 4GB swap. The desktop looks prettier than its previous version and its fast and little bit buggy as I can't install codecs from internet. That doesn't matter for me.

Hardware Detection:

Quite impressive, detected all my hardware and also my friend's webcam who uses Lenovo Laptop. So , its simply gr8.

Multimedia :

Due to bug I can't get rich multimedia experience. It doesn't come with codecs require to play all media format. As I am new to fedora please guide me to resolve this problem simply posting comments.

Screen shot:

Conclusion :

I don't thing its a windows xp replacement for newbies. so, the fedora community has work harder to allure newbies.

My Rating : 3.5/5
