Gnome 2.28 Released: Linux 2u

The GNOME project is proud to release this new version of the GNOME desktop environment and developer platform. Among the hundreds of bug fixes and user-requested improvements, GNOME 2.28 has several highly visible changes: seamless integration with bluetooth devices, simpler desktop sharing and a generally smoother user experience. Whats New in Gnome 2.28 :

* GNOME 2.28 includes the first release of the GNOME Bluetooth module to help users manage their Bluetooth devices. GNOME Bluetooth supports hundreds of Bluetooth devices, including mice, keyboards and headsets. GNOME Bluetooth includes PulseAudio integration for Bluetooth headsets and headphones.

GNOME Bluetooth also includes support for Internet access through your mobile phone. After pairing your mobile phone with GNOME Bluetooth, NetworkManager will include an entry to use your mobile phone for Internet access.

                  So using internet through GPRS,EDGE, 3G will become easier. So now you can try Airtel, Smart, Aircel EDGE service.

* The Time Tracker applet, which helps you track your time and tasks, includes a number of new improvements.

* GNOME's instant messaging and communication application.

* The GNOME Web Browser, Epiphany.

* DVD playback in GNOME's Media Player has been improved with the ability to navigate DVD menus and resume playback from the last position.

* Brasero, the GNOME CD/DVD Burner, now supports the ability to burn data across multiple discs and has added a graphical display to show space used on discs before burning.

Puppy Linux 4.3 -Linux 2u

Its a amazing fast distro and its my 2nd encounter. It has great impact upon me that why should we looking for good looking slow distro while we can go for a super fast distro that is the difference a dial up connection and a broad band connection.

 My Test Machine:

AMD64 3000+ Processor
MSI Motherboard
512 DDR II Ram
ESPON C 58 Printer
Samsung Monitor.

Installation:
I took a iso image from internet it was about 103 MB in size and burned using K3B of PCLunuxOS 2009.1. It was a live CD so I went for a Test Drive. Its asked some question like monitor resolution , color then it desktop appears I was stunt that in such a small size how it provides such tones of feature like it has everything from word processor to intant massenger. Booting from Live CD was fast from any other distro's Harddisk boot so imagine how fast it is. Actually it runs fully on RAM that is the secret.

Whats New in This Puppy 4.3:

*Super fast EXT4 

*2.6.30.5 kernel

*all the components updated.

* Pstreamvid. This is a great GUI for playing streaming video.

Multimedia Experiance:
Excellent it was really excellent when it came multimedia experience , everything played out of box from MP3 files to VOB. It has GXine for movie playing and Pmusic for Music needs.


Conclusion:
It is best for low end computers and perfect for netbooks and sure it is best than windows 98. Now I can say it is a perfect windows killer.

Future of Mobile Operating System

Today Google Android platform provide an open source operating system, but if a user want to install Android on his mobile is quite impossible , so what the term open source implies here, in my view Android is not open source,its confined to mobile handset makers only.
There is no installer available for mobile handset, only SDK available. But think about PC there is so much Open Source Linux operating system available in market so no one could tell what will be the number. Handset maker uses Anroid and we have to buy like Mac and windows XP. If Android is really open source then everybody can use it what the mobile phone is.

Some of the Anroid Based Phones:
HTC Touch : Pric e- 30000 INR or 350$

So my question is that is there any OS available for mobile and that is totally open source.

Mandriva 2010 RC1 : Linux2u

Final Release Date: 3rd November,2009 ahead of openSuse 11.2.

 Mandriva is quite popular distro and now I am going depict my second encounter  with Mandriva 2010 RC1.

 My Test Machine:

512 DDR II Ram
ESPON C 58 Printer
Samsung Monitor.

Installation:

It is smooth and fast and graphics looks gorgeous during installation.
You will be able also to use from installation media some very useful tools:

Multimedia Experience:

If you install VLC & SMPlayer (provider in DVD) you can play most of things. But if you want to play using Dragon or Totem you have to buy codecs from fluendo is the only option.


Whats New in Mandriva 2010 RC1:

Due to the strength of Linux, a typical Mandriva Linux system can run for months without a reboot. Additionally, the i586 version of Mandrivalinux Linux is optimized for Pentium class (and compatible processors) to provide the highest performance on this hardware.This release comes with new integration of Nepomuk in KDE. This experimental functionality helps you to add notes, annotations and labels to files.
